Shorts, Shorts & Shots (SSS) is Docubox's signature short film event, launched in 2015 as a celebration of bold, authentic African storytelling.

True to its name, SSS brings together award-winning African short films, audiences in shorts, and a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic shots, creating a space where filmmakers and audiences can watch, connect, talk and celebrate African cinema together.

What began in Nairobi has grown into a recurring series of themed editions and SSS On The Road experiences across Africa and beyond. From Valentine's and Mzalendo to Halloween, Afrofuturism and Through Our Eyes: We Are All Africans, each edition gives SSS a new lens while keeping the spirit of the event intact.

SSS is film, but it is also the people, the conversations, the style and the energy around it.

SSS On The Road

Shorts, doesn'tstay in one place

Over the years, Shorts, Shorts & Shots has hit the road, taking its mix of short films, shared experiences and the social side of cinema beyond Nairobi. From Kitale Film Week and the Zanzibar International Film Festival to Uganda, Durban, Paris, Cotonou & Rwanda, SSS on the Road has brought the format into different cities, festivals and communities, creating room for audiences to watch, hang out, talk and connect around film.

Animated

For 2026, SSS turns its attention to African animation, bringing animated short films, creators and audiences together for a closer look at the worlds being imagined across the continent and its diaspora.

The programme brings together animated shorts across styles and approaches, alongside a masterclass, gaming and interactive experiences that open up the wider creative world behind the screen.

It is a celebration of animation as a way of seeing, making and telling stories, and of the African artists building those worlds in their own voices.
